Borrowing Materials

Checking out materials requires a registered library card (physical or digital) in good standing or a valid photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, student ID, etc.).

While Warren-Newport Public Library (WNPL) is a fine-free library, due dates will still apply. Items are expected to be returned in good condition and in a timely manner.

Loan Periods

All WNPL items (including Library of Things, videogames, and magazines) will be checked out for three (3) weeks or twenty-one (21) days with the following exceptions:

Renewals

WNPL materials have a maximum of three (3) renewals. Eligible items will automatically be renewed three (3) days before the due date.

Automatic renewals will not be available if:

  • An item is on hold.
  • An item has already been renewed the maximum number of times.
  • The patron’s account is blocked.
  • An item is non-renewable.

Non-renewable items include Hot Picks, Library of Things, Seven (7) Day Hotspots, and Book Club Kits.

Fines and Fees

WNPL does not charge late fines on overdue materials. However, if an item has not been returned within two (2) weeks of the due date, the patrons account will be blocked from any further checkouts.

Once an item has been overdue forty-five (45) days the patron will receive a bill for a replacement. Replacement fees for lost or damaged items will include the replacement cost plus a non-refundable $5.00 processing fee.

Approximately ten (10) days after billing, an account could be sent to a materials recovery service. At that time a non-waivable, non-refundable recovery fee of $10.00 will be added to the patron’s account. This charge must be paid in full.

Lost material refunds will only be granted if the item is returned in good condition and within six (6) months of the original billing date.
