Charles Schulz was born in Minnesota in 1922 and was known as Sparky. At one point, Peanuts was published daily in 2,600 papers in 75 countries and 21 languages. Over nearly 50 years, Schulz drew 17,897 published Peanuts strips. He influenced generations of cartoonists and illustrators from Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) to Mo Willems (Elephant and Piggie).
