The Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald is a fun-filled chapter book set in late nineteenth century Utah. The story is told by a ten-year old boy who recounts growing up with his genius older brother, nicknamed The Great Brain. From the novelty of indoor plumbing on, this is a slice of life from a by-gone era, one in which The Great Brain applies his great intellect to scheme after childhood scheme.
There is much learning about consequences along the way for the boys and much laughter for the reader. This is the first of a series written by Fitzgerald, who fictionalized his own childhood memories (he was the younger brother!).
